Oh how the year has passed! I am so proud of the graduating 8th graders! You have all added so much to our music department both as musicians and people. As I am sad that you are leaving us, but I am also excited about your upcoming future in High School. You are all prepared and will be successful Thank you for 3 awesome years!! Thank you also to the Graduation Band for such a wonderful performance!! You all are so dedicated and supportive of our fellow classmates. I heard many comments about how the "band rocked" and was so mature during the ceremony. Thank you for a great year and have a wonderful summer! I can not believe it! One of my students, Fluff-a-nutter, has passed my highest level! Congrats! When I started teaching public school I discovered that I needed a way to challenge and guide every student through my curriculum, even though I was unable to see them every week or with consistency. I also wanted a system to develop them as "complete" musicians that included Cognitive (Theory/History), Affective (Writing/Composition), and Psychomotor (Skills). Thus, my Music Level System was invented after three years of research and assembling. I have 18 levels that start with 4th grade musicianship through an advanced High School student at Level 18. I never thought that I would have a student make it to Level 18. For example, I did not even completely finish Level 17 and 18 until Fluff-a-nutter passed Level 16. My personal hope is that every student reach Level 10. Here are a couple of examples of what she had to do to pass Level 18: - Pass/Complete the Theory Program - Write a 3-4 page paper on "How has Technology changed music and how we enjoy music over the history of time" - Write a 1-2 page review of a professional live concert - Perform a solo - Play all your major and minor scales at a quarter note = 120, memorized - Compose a 2 minute piece for a solo or chamber ensemble, including a paragraph description Congrats to our first Level 18 - Fluff-A-Nutter!!! |
