How the Brain Learns - by David Sousa
“Although the arts are often thought of as separate subjects, like chemistry or algebra, they really are a collection of skills and thought processes that transcends all areas of human engagement. When taught well, the arts develop cognitive competencies that benefit learners in every aspect of their education and prepare them for the demands of the 21st century.” Page 215

The BRMS Instrumental Music Curriculum
Black River Middle School is committed to the fact that music offers a unique opportunity to challenge each student cognitively, affectively, and physically. Music provides for emotional expression, intrinsic worth, and has a positive impact on individuals, families, communities, and cultures.
Through many different musical ensembles, lessons, the Music Level Ranking System, and performing arts classes, each student will have the opportunity to excel in all of these areas.

"Chester Music Spring Spectacular" 2021
We are very proud of how our music department continued throughout COVID-19! We never stopped providing a great education to all or our students.
Below is our "TV" show we made for our 2021 spring concert.
Not bad for lessons on Zoom, masks on instruments, and very small group rehearsals.
Enjoy!
